Diabetes
- Elder berries contain polyphenols that affect endothelial cells, membrane sensitivity, and intracellular signalling. This action means they may have potential to be suitable for diabetes therapy. J Physiol Biochem 2009. Sep;65(3):297-304
Anti-viral
- This study revealed that some of the phytochemicals from Elder berries can neutralize the activity of hemagglutinin spikes found on the surface of many viruses. With these spikes inactivated these viruses can’t get past the cell walls to enter into the cell for replication. Altern Med Rev 2007. Mar;12(1):25-48
- In a randomized study using oral Elder berry extract they found that symptoms were relived 4 days earlier and people used less “rescue” medications than those on placebo. J Int Med Res. 2004 Mar-Apr;32(2):132-40
Anti-oxidant
- This study found the potential to protect colon cells from the adverse affects of oxidative stress. Food Chem. 2016 Apr 15;197(Pt A):648-57
